Let’s see if it happens

For years I made note of the date our lake became ice free and stayed that way for the summer. It didn’t seem to make any difference how cold the winter had been or the amount of snow. I don’t know if it the positioning of the sun for increased melt or what but almost without exception the lake thaw completed between March 20 and March 23. Of course since I am posting this it will not happen this year but it will be interesting to see if it works out once again.

Shortly after the thaw we can look forward to the different varieties of pike starting to hit and the crappies and bluegills will be moving into the fingers enjoying the warmer water as it runs into our lake from the surrounding fields. What a great time of year with the vegetation coming back to life, the warm afternoon sun, and fish starting to bite as spawning begins.
