"Wounded Warrior" tournament in the rain

First annual Wounded Warriors fishing tournament sponsored by the Candlewick Anglers and Poplar Grove Pro Hardware and Bass Pro Shop was held Oct. 13th with a total of seven boats entering. Dru Appelhans won the tournament with the highest total weight of fish 11.72 lb. and Brad Betke won for Biggest Bass with a 2.96 lb. beauty.
Wounded Warriors Project {WWP}began when several veterans and friends moved by stories of the first wounded service members returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq took action to help others in need. What started as a program to provide comfort items to wounded service members has grown into a complete rehabilitative effort to assist warriors as they recover and transition back to civilian life. Tens of thousands of wounded warriors and caregivers receive support each year through WWP programs designed to nurture the mind and body and encourage economic empowerment and engagement.
This years fishing tournament was in memory of Iraq Veteran James Gosnell with a total of $525.00 raised from the tournament entry fee, donations and raffles of prizes donated by Poplar Grove Pro Hardware and Bass Pro Shops along with gift certificates to Pacemaker Country Side grocery store.
