Chicago - The Illinois Commerce Commission voted Tuesday morning to approve a rate increase for ComEd, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The 7.6 percent increase amounts to an extra $156 million for the utility.
The commission rejected a request from ComEd for an additional surcharge to set up a so-called "smart power" grid in the area, despite an advertising push from ComEd to get it approved.
Attorney General Lisa Madigan and the Citizens Utility Board have come out against the rate increase request.
