Deterrent-prevention

Since the pro-incorporation group is intent on adding another layer of government to our community, let's discuss one of their goals.........gate removal.

Our gates are in place to add privacy as well as being a deterrent to those wishing to cause problems in our community. We all knew when we moved here the gates were a part of the package as well as the security force, our private lake, and all the other assets.

The pro-incorporation group has been advocating gate removal for some time, saying the gates are doing no good. I have to wonder if those folks lock their doors at night. Getting into a home with the doors locked is no problem, just break a window or cut a screen. Why bother locking your doors if they do no good? There is a difference between deterrent and prevention. Complete prevention is impossible. Deterrence is not. If someone is intent on trying to rob a house or steal a child do you think they would pick an area with gates and cameras over a wide open area? That defies logic. Being caught is their main concern and the odds of getting in and out of Candlewick quickly without being either on camera or being seen by gate security makes the prospect much less appealing.

The promotion of the idea of removing gates because they are ineffective makes no sense. The gates to a great extent stop those wanting to use the amenities we have paid for and we are supporting with our dues. These are ours. Would someone build a home then tell everyone to just come in at will and use their yard for picnics and park in their driveway if they wish? How about using their living room for a family get-together? Ridiculous, right? That is in effect what is being proposed.

Remember when considering the incorporation proposal if it appears on the November ballot no matter how much it is described otherwise by the proponents, it is only the first step to the final goal of a fully incorporated ungated city with unlimited access to all and plans to grow with annexations as well as taxing and bonding power. Think long and hard, folks, this would be a long term disaster for us all.
