We seem to be attracting a more diverse array of wildlife in the last few years, and that is nice to see. If our area couldn’t sustain all the species we wouldn’t be seeing them.
When we first moved here a lot of the area was undeveloped and the south end of Candlewick was filled with grass fields. You could count on seeing pheasants about every time driving through. Over the years with development the pheasants left, as did a lot of the other animals. About all that were plentiful were squirrels and waterfowl. That is all changing. Deer live near the base of the dam by the creek, we saw fox last winter, turkeys have been around, of course raccoons, muskrats, and beavers. No surprises there.
What is a surprise is the arrival of pelicans, kingfishers, wild swans, and now Bald Eagles as well as coyotes have been sighted on the East side of the lake. I for one love our new animal residents and hope to see even more as time passes.
