Freeport, a city about forty miles to our west, is having a cash flow problem. Freeport, join the crowd of other cities in the same boat. Revenues have dried up and it is time to put the burden on the voters again.
They have informed their citizens they need a 22% increase in the tax levy to retain services. They are giving their residents the choice of paying through the nose or losing a lot in the area of “essential services.” What a great choice, deciding whether to have cuts in the services they need from the city or adding 22% to their city levy. How would you like to be on the unemployment rolls and being asked to shell out another 22%? They can pick their poison with their vote on the issue.
