How many times have we heard that a holiday, such as Memorial Day, is not meant to celebrated with picnics and festivals, well, I’m here to tell you that this is exactly how Labor Day is meant to be celebrated. The holiday was first celebrated in New York as a “workingmen’s holiday” and even though there is some debate as to who came up with the idea it was definitely born out of the labor unions. The first proposed holiday was to be celebrated with a parade, followed by a festival and amusements for workers and their families. In this instance, tradition has prevailed. So go out and enjoy your picnics, your parties, your barbecues, festivals, parade and such and know that you are doing exactly what the day was designed to be. Here’s hoping everyone has a safe and happy holiday weekend.
